a year already!
March 11, 2009
I can not believe it. A year has already past since Matt and I have started dating. It has been great! Let’s just say Matt pulled out some impressive stuff yesterday! On Sunday we went to the beach front as this was our first outing after we started dating, we had not been back since then and it was nice to go back and see the area where we had taken pictures. Good thing Matt decided to do this Sunday as Tuesday [our one year] was ALL rain. Unfortunately I had class (like most students) so it was not till 3 that the activities started taking place.
Location 1: Walmart! A common destination for Matt and I on weekends as it seems that we need to catch up on the weekly deals or check out crazy ladies running down isles pushing their carts to get the last pumpkin pie! A great start to a great evening.
Location 2: Off to Matt’s house to surprise eachother with out gifts for one another. I had no idea what was coming and boy was I ever shocked! Matt asked me to sit in a chair and close my eyes. As I opened my eyes there he was one candle lit and a guitar in his hands. He had written me a song! I could not believe it. It was amazing and I loved every word and note. Then he pulled out a small wrapped gift and a beautiful card. I had recieved a cross necklace from my parents for my profession of faith 5 years back and I had lost in in highschool. I had never found a cross necklace that would ever replace that necklace and as I open the small box the most amazing, delicate cross necklace was in my hand. It is beautiful and filled with small diamonds. I was certainly blown away. But the night was not over.
Location 3: La Spaghett the most amazing and smallest italian restaurant. It was a very small but the portions were big and the food tasted AMAZING! I definately suggest this restaurant by far. The restaurant only had ten tables so Matt had made reservations which I am glad he did as we would have not been seated. It was a very nice candle lit dinner.
Location 4: Well where else would you go then Tim Hortons. It was Matt’s and I’s first date and continued to be many afterwards. Oh and I won a coffee!!
Location 5: Back to Matt’s house we go with a movie in hand to watch for the rest of the night. unfrotunately a dud – [Rachel Getting Married] Then another trick up Matt’s sleeve as he had downloaded our song “You and Me” and started to play it and asked me to dance.
It was the most wonderful night ever and I wish it never had to end. I could not have wished for anything else. Now unfortunately back to school as the papers and presentations are coming up very fast!
body of Christ
January 26, 2009
I attended the Social Justice Conference this past weekend and what I have heard from that day has been running through my mind. Through the message given by the plenary speaker there was something that stood out to me as wow – I never knew – yet it was there all along. He spoke about us being the body of Christ. He first mentioned brokenness which is the marking of Jesus breaking the bread. After Jesus breaks the bread he shares it and gives it out so that we may be blessed. In the same way we are to be broken so that God can bless us and as well allow us to go out and bless others. This just reminded me of the theme of the school year, power in weakness. We need to become vulnerable, broken in order to receive God’s blessing and as well to be able to bless others around us.
One thing that hit home was that we are the body of Christ and Christ’s body was not in perfect condition. He had been hung on a cross and had holes in his hands and feet. he had many open wounds. If we are the body of Christ – then what are the open wounds of the body of Christ? Who are these people today?
Let us seek to heal these wounds whether it be children, men, or women who are forced into slavery, prostitution, poverty or who suffer from AIDS or any of the injustices of the world.
I put on righteousness as my clothing; justice was my robe and my turban. – Job 29:14
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne; love and faithfulness go before you – Psalm 89:14
…it has been a long while

So life has been busy and I have not posted for a long time, so I thought that I would catch everybody up to the present day.
Dorm life is going great. The girls in my dorm are amazing and I have been truly blessed with each and everyone of them being in this dorm! As well I am rooming with Stephanie Linker which is going great! We have been super busy with school work, dorm, and well a boyfriend :) But what is life without a bit of chaos.
I have been lucky to have done quite a bit over the past few months now that I am so much closer to Matt (5 minutes down the road to be exact). I am loving being able to see him so much more often then the summer. We have gone on many trips to waterfalls, out for dinner, family functions and let us not forget…Walmart! :) Things are going great and I could not ask for anything else.
As well I have been lucky to be around for the birth of Joshua Peter Speelman and Nathan Ezekiel Ennema. They are so adorable. I ask that you please pray for Nathan as he was born 11 weeks premature and has been going through alot of treatments thus far and please pray for the family as well as they have a busy road ahead.
Thanks for checking in and hopefully I keep remembering to post :)
xoxo
another summer gone
August 27, 2008
I can not believe it. I am already sitting behind a desk at Redeemer preparing for another year of school. Where did summer really go? Maybe it was because I worked full time or maybe it was because it never really got stinken’ hot and humid. What ever it seems to be I still can not believe how time flies!
At the same time, I am so excited for this new school year to start. Anticipating my classes but most of all anticipating meeting the first year girls that are moving into the dorm. I never realized in first year, anxious to be an RA in a few years, to actually being an RA would happen so fast. As the dorm starts to gain character as pictures are placed on the walls, I become more excited to start the school year.
Looking back on summer and the list of “things to do” I have to say that this past summer has been great while it has lasted. I have completed many things on the list and have some that just need to be added to future summer goals. I was fortunate to be able to get off work to attend many weddings, go to Wonderland, camping, get together with friends from school, and as well be able to see Matt every once in a while.
I now look to the future with hope and pray that God will be working threw me as I become a role model for the first year girls. As well that relationships will be able to form. I believe that this school year will be a blast and one that will be full of many memories and laughs.
sunscreen!!
July 7, 2008
So after a weekend on the beach … I was reminded of one thing that my mother always told me before I headed out side… WEAR YOUR SUNSCREEN!
I always forget how painful a sun burn can be until I am reminded by the red skin that feels itchy tight and what I tell Matt…what feels like a free face lift.
So for all of you who are like me and think they would rather have a sun tan then put on greasy lotion…think again because I hope this summer you do not have to go through the pain of a sun burn.
Take it from me… it BURNS!
one proud sister!
June 6, 2008
Living with two brothers and no sisters can be challenging at times, but there do come times as a big sister I am proud of my younger brothers, and this weekend is one of them. Brandon (middle) is professing his faith in public on Sunday. I am a proud sister to see that my brother has decided it is time to profess his Jesus as Lord. As well Brock (youngest) has been chosen by his class and teachers at his school to be valedictorian of his graduating class. I am very proud of my brothers and love them so much!

Thanks for checking out my site. I thought I would create this site for the summer so that I could keep in touch with family and friends over the summer and as well share some photos. I was never really into the blogging, but thought I would give this a try. Sorry in advance for the bare web page as I am just starting out. Might take some time to figure all this out.
